A Challenge Phrase is a word or phrase that is used for security purposes. It is created at the time of enrollment for the following products:
  • Digital IDs for Secure Email
  • SSL Certificates
  • Code Signing Digital ID’s
IMPORTANT: During enrollments where the Challenge Phrase is requested, it is a required field and cannot be omitted. The maximum number of characters allowed for the challenge phrase is 32.

Your Challenge Phrase is the one positive means of identification should you require VeriSign to take emergency action against your Digital ID. If you lose your Challenge Phrase, VeriSign cannot authenticate who is making the request to take action against your certificate or ID.
